Android Tablets Get Better Google Earth
![]() |
Google Earth for Android smartphones was launched in 2010 but when Android 3.0 for tablets was launched it was clear that Google Earth for Android needed some optimisation tweaking.
To take full advantage of the larger screen sizes on tablets Google has now optimized Google Earth for Android so that things look a whole lot better.
There is improved support for fully textured 3D buildings, a new action bar up top, enabling easier access to search and the option to "fly to your location" and layers such as Places etc. There is a also a content pop up" which removes the need for switching back and forth between pages. One of the best experiences for viewing 3D graphics must be scrolling through the Colosseum in Rome, Italy. We here at 3G had a look and were impressed.
The new Google Earth for Android is available for smartphones with Android 2.3 or above and Android for 3.0 for Tablets. It can be downloaded at googlearth.com/earth and from Android Market.
