Nokia's Lumia 720 and Lumia 520 both run on Windows Phone 8 and have a similar specification. But which of Nokia's smartphone should you buy?
Nokia unveiled the Nokia Lumia 720 and the Lumia 520 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Both smartphones run on the Windows Phone 8 platform and have a very similar specification, but which of the two should you choose to buy ?
Lumia 720 & Lumia 520 - Shared Features
As we mentioned previously both the Nokia Lumia 720 and Lumia 520 run on Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 platform. That means they support all the latest applications including Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive and Nokia Radio.
Both also come with a 1 GHz dual-core processor , an Adreno 305 GPU and 512MB of RAM. Therefore, there is nothing between them when it comes to power , while they both come with 8GB of on-board memory and support microSD cards (up to 64GB).
The Differences Between Nokia's Smartphones
One key difference between the Lumia 520 and Lumia 720 is that the latter comes with a larger 4.3 inch touch-screen. However, it still runs at the same resolution (800*480 pixels) as the Lumia 520's 4 inch display. Both are IPS displays with ClearBack technology, but only the Nokia Lumia 720 comes with Gorilla Glass.

The second big difference between these Nokia smartphones is that the Lumia 720 comes with a 6.7 mega-pixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, while the 520 only has a 5 mega-pixel snapper. Additionally, the 720's camera has an LED Flash , while it also has a front-facing 1.3 mega-pixel front-facing camera.
The final difference is that Nokia's Lumia 720 supports wireless charging , although you do have to purchase an additional wireless charging sleeve (RRP £30).
Price Comparison
Nokia's Lumia 520 will be priced at £170, while the Lumia 720 is expected to come in at around £300. We presume this price difference will be reflected in the tariffs offered on both smartphones. Therefore, there is quite a substantial difference between the two when it comes to price.
Both the Lumia 720 and Lumia 520 will land in the second quarter of 2013.
Nokia Lumia 520 v Lumia 720 - Our Conclusion
The Nokia Lumia 520 and Lumia 720 have the same core-specification, while the latter comes with a better front-facing snapper, a larger touch-screen and support for wireless charging.
On paper that makes it an easy victory for Nokia's Lumia 720. However, given the £130 price-difference between the two we'd have to suggest that the Lumia 520 offers better value.
Winner : Nokia Lumia 520 !
Those interested in either mobile should consider Nokia's Lumia 620 which offers a similar specification to the Lumia 520 and is already available to buy in the UK. You can read more about the Lumia 620 by clicking here.
