We recently undertook a comparison between the HTC One and the Galaxy S3 when we decided the ageing S3 couldn't compete with the HTC One. This is no surprise as mobile phone technology improves at such a furious pace. The HTC One was awarded “Best New Smartphone” at MWC this month and we wondered what the HTC designers did to bring us such a great smartphone.
HTC call the HTC One a “break-through phone” in terms of its design. The video below shows members of the HTC One's creative and design team explaining the methodology and creative thinking involved in the design of the HTC One.
In the video, the HTC Creative Director explains that the aim was to produce a “zero gap” construction having no “part breaks” and is viewed as completely seamless. We see how this was achieved in the manufacturing process and how the aluminium shell of the phone is electro-chemically etched, contoured via CNC machining and precision cut with a diamond cutter to produce the HTC One’s chamfered shell.
3G have to admit this is a great insight into how the HTC One was inked out, designed and made. No wonder it won the above award at Mobile World Congress !
