Layar Augmented Reality App Now Available For Symbian
Layar , the augmented reality browser, is now available to download for Symbian smartphones.
Augmented reality is where technology and the real-world combine to provide a richer experience. For example, you can view information about a painting on your mobile by facing your camera towards it.
The Layar application has many uses including being used as city guide. The city guide would mark landmarks with arrows on your mobile while you are in a certain area.
Your mobile does this by using both the camera, GPS, compass and accelerometer. The GPS would find out where you were , the accelerometer would work out which way your facing in collaboration with the compass and the camera would be used to find out what you are looking at.
The uses for the application are very exciting and include not only city guides , but also to add further information to landmarks. It can also be used to find real estate for sale, gaming and for things such as museum tours.
Layar is available to download right now by clicking here. Mobiles supported include the Nokia N8, Nokia C7 and Nokia N97.
