Walk Your Nokia Smartphone To Charge It
![]() |
Mobile phone giant Nokia intends to take the lead role in the new area of making your smartphone self-charging. Nokia has applied for a patent of which a drawing can be seen above. The patent basically applies to charging a mobile device via a walking motion.
The walking causes a floating frame to move within the phone and produces energy which Nokia has classed as Piezoelectric Kinetic Energy Harvester. We hear at 3G.co.uk will call it “Walk n Charge”. The piezoelectric crystals attached to the floating frame produce a small electric charge. This is similar to how a crystal oscillator works as it produces an electrical signal with a very precise frequency.
We here at 3G.co.uk don’t really see Nokia’s first attempt having enough power to keep a smartphone alive and anticipate the first “Walk n Chargers ” to be supported by some battery power at least. At the moment this is just a patent and nothing more.
