Nokia’s MeeGo platform was confirmed back in Mid February. Basically, this announcement outlined that MeeGo, will combine Intel’s Moblin operating system which is mainly used with MIDs ( mobile internet devices ) with Nokia’s Maemo operating system ( mainly used for smartphones ) and will be developed for use with the Intel Atom chip.
Following on from the above announcement and the 3G.co.uk article here Nokia and Intel Combine To Produce MeeGo, Orange and Nokia have now confirmed that Orange will launch MeeGo devices by the end of 2010. This is reported to include smartphones and netbooks. Intel and Orange will ensure that services such as Orange maps and Orange Tv function correctly on the various MeeGo devices that Orange will introduce.
"Seventy-five percent of our customer base has yet to embrace the mobile internet. With the increasing number of phones and operating systems for customers to choose from, it is our role to make sure our customer's journey into this richer mobile multimedia environment is simple and easy," said Yves Maitre, SVP Devices, Orange Group.
