US : Huawei Technologies announced the arrival of its SDR (Software Defined Radio)-based SingleRAN/LTE (Software Defined Radio) truck. The road show will begin by visiting the UK from 2nd-13th March. Customers will experience the LTE (Long Term Evolution) demonstration and more simplified network deployments through using Huawei SingleRAN solution.
Informa recently forecast that the number of global GSM subscribers is likely to exceed 3.2 billion and that the number of UMTS/HSPA subscribers is likely to grow to nearly 1.4 billion in 2012. Different kinds of technology systems including GSM, UMTS/HSPA and LTE will coexist in the long-term. Many operators have to consider parallel investments and multiplied O&M costs for at least two networks at the same time, which brings high investment costs while trying to launch new services and ensure smooth network evolution.
Huawei launched the industry first SingleRAN solution in the first half of 2008. Through applying three essential elements: Uni-equipment, Uni-site and Uni-operation, network deployment and evolution are made easier for operators. Till the end of 2008, Huawei has shipped 400,000 TRX of 4th generation BTS for the operators globally.
"SingleRAN achieves the convergence and evolution of full wireless networks of different technology systems, so that operators will be able to construct a more simplified, future-oriented and carefree green mobile network." In-Stat indicated.
" The development of mobile telecommunications has reached a new stage where network convergence and smooth evolution to future networks is a necessary requirement for operators." said Samuel Sun, managing director of Huawei UK. "UK operators are considering the LTE deployment in the near future. SingleRAN is regarded to realise the convergence at a network level, helping operator pave the way to smooth evolution to future networks and reduce OPEX in the economy downturn."
Huawei's leading LTE and SingleRAN solutions have been widely recognized by operators globally. Recently, Huawei has been chosen by TeliaSonera, the largest telecoms operator in Scandinavia and the Baltic countries, to supply the world's first commercial LTE network, in Oslo, Norway. In 2008, Huawei launched the industry's first 3G / 2G SDR based Software Defined Radio (SDR) SingleRAN product together with Vodafone Group.
