| Huawei Shows Off 3G Solutions |
1st March , 2004 |
Europe : Last week, Huawei Technologies brought its total end-to-end 3G solution to Cannes. Like all major vendors in the industry, Huawei had not only built a big booth this time but also taken a big truck which holds a total solution of its 3G mobile infrastructure. This equipment operates live, covering the whole exhibition area, and Huawei and its partners, located at different places in the exhibition area, demonstrate live 3G services as video calls, internet access, video on demand and much more. Mobile communications has become a major new growth area for Huawei Technologies. So far, Huawei has developed its full set of mobile communications solutions covering GSM, WCDMA, CDMA2000, and TD-SCDMA, and successfully delivered products and solutions for more than 80 carriers, serving over 20 million subscribers the world over. During the first day of the show, a great number of customers from all over the world visited the Huawei booth and they were amazingly impressed, experiencing the demonstrations and discussing with Huawei engineers and management executives, by Huawei's commercial 3G product and solution. Even more impressive to them are Huawei's customized solutions ranging from tailor-making a business plan, network planning, network infrastructure, engineering and service provisioning, application platform to 3G handsets and project financing. At the show, Huawei has a series of equipment and technologies including soft-switch architecture based R4 circuit domain core network which enables GSM, GPRS, and WCDMA subscribers to access the network simultaneously and supports smooth evolution towards R5 and R6, protecting the operator's investment effectively; and packet domain core network of SGSN/GGSN/CG integrating 2G and 3G, which support both GPRS and WCDMA high-speed data services. The core network is backward compatible with 3GPP R99 and R4; forward compatibility secures smooth evolution towards R5 and R6. Huawei also exhibited a comprehensive NodeB family which includes indoor 12-carrier macro-cellular NodeB, indoor 6-carrier macro-cellular NodeB, outdoor 6-carrier macro-cellular NodeB, outdoor 2-carrier mini NodeB, and one-carrier remote radio module. Huawei has also displayed its enhanced coverage technologies and Huawei's proprietary key technology algorithms such as power control and handover which can effectively improve network quality. During the show, through its on-site truck provided network, Huawei has done a live demo of diversified WCDMA services such as MMS, VOD, Video Phone, VC, Call TV, network browsing, 384 kbit/s high-speed data services, E-mail, games, downloading and so on. Huawei has also done a joint live demo with Infineon on the above services. All these technologies and services have already been, or will soon be, realized in the commercial networks of Etisalat (UAE) and Sunday (Hong Kong), thus making Huawei a member of the exclusive group of vendors in the world with WCDMA commercial contracts. In Cannes, Huawei also brought its CDMA2000 1x EV-DO products on display. Huawei CDMA products have achieved large scale commercial application in the international market and Huawei has become the fastest growing vendor in this area with products deployed in over 30 countries. Huawei has had a successful breakthrough in the European market by building a 3G CDMA network in Portugal. In the area of CDMA450, Huawei has become the world's largest equipment supplier with products deployed in over 10 countries including Russia, Belarus, Portugal, Indonesia and Vietnam. Huawei also exhibited Huawei-made WCDMA and CDMA2000 handsets and fixed terminals and these were also used at the show, for the 3G live demonstrations. |
