Next-Gen iPhones To Incorporate Changeable Camera Lenses ?

Apple Camera

Nokia have taken smartphone cameras to a new level with the release of the 41 mega-pixel Pureview 808 , but it looks like Apple are planning to revolutionise the smartphone cameras even further.

Apple have filed new patents, which were reported by AppleInsider, related to a "Back Panel for a Portable Electronic Device with Different Camera Lens Options,". Basically, this refers to a camera on a smartphone which supports lens changes, the addition of filters , optical zooms and other changes.

The patent files showed sketches of a device very similar to an iPhone which would incorporate a "digital imaging subsystem with a lens that has an optical axis. This suggests the technology will be coming to future Apple iPhones, although we're probably looking at the iPhone 6 or 7 in a few years time.

We don't expect to hear much about this new camera technology for some time, but Steve Jobs always promised that Apple would reinvent camera technology and this looks like the first step in achieving that goal !
