HTC Desire To Be Upgraded To Gingerbread Afterall

The HTC Desire has already been upgraded to Android 2.2 , but owners of the mobile were enquiring whether they would see an upgrade to Android Gingerbread.
In response HTC originally said that the update wasn't possible because of memory limits with the HTC Desire S, which to be fair is quite an old mobile. The problem lay in the fact that HTC wouldn't be capable of running its HTC Sense interface and Gingerbread because the mobiles memory isn't enough to support both.
However, HTC have now posted on their Facebook page that the Gingerbread update will be coming to the HTC Desire. The way they will achieve this is by cutting some applications from the Gingerbread release, which is probably a sensible compromise.
Users will still have the choice whether to update to the latest version of Android, so its quite admirable that HTC found a work-around on such an old smartphone. If all manufacturers continue to support its existing range as long as HTC do, the need to buy a new mobile would diminish greatly.
The HTC Desire 2.3 update is expected to be available next week, so watch out for the update that it is available. However, as always you'll have to wait for your network to roll out the update.
