Orange UK has unveiled its next own branded smartphone called the Barcelona. Orange has earlier released the first in their series of its own branded smartphones called the San Francisco.

Like the San Francisco, the Barcelona is an Android smartphone and runs on Android 2.2 ( Froyo ). It comes with 2.6 inch TFT touch screen and a rear facing 3.2 megapixel camera. Looking at the earlier phone called the San Francisco, we haven't heard of sales breezing along so we can only presume sales are fair to moderate for the San Francisco.

The new Barcelona smartphone can be found on the Orange store and comes with a QWERTY kyeyboard as well as its 2.6 inch TFT touch screen. Other notable features are : FM radio, HD Voice, Orange Maps, UMA signal boost and video calling.

A self branded smartphone is usually aimed at the mid to lower range of smartphone users and will be priced accordingly. On the Orange page it says that the Barcelona will be free on contract and although there is no price for it on Pay As You Go but we would anticipate it being between one hundred and one hundred and fifty pounds.

We will wait to see how the series of Orange branded smartphones develops but we cant see them as trailblazers but more akin to someone who doesn't see a specific brand like Samsung as their cup of tea and in fact only require a phone that does the basics and has little street cred.
