Looking at Android founder, Andy Rubin's latest Twitter post, he confirms that Android activations have hit the dizzy figure of 500,000 a day.

Back in December last year, 3G posted an article that Andy Ruben confirmed that there were 300,000 Android activations a day. Looking at the reporting timescale of the time between now ( 500K ) and six months before ( 300K ) we calculate that Android activations are increasing at average of around 2000 a day on top of the 500K per day. So a week later, daily activations would be e.g. 516K per day and likely escalating all the time for some time to come.

The growth is almost all accredited to Android smartphone sales but Google have confirmed they expect tablet sales to increase sharply over the next year in a similar way to the smartphones.

Eric Schmidt  CEO of Google said "Tablets in the Android space have really only just happened in the last six months, there are big enough markets and there won't be just one winner."
