Apple Admits iPhone 4 Signal Problem
![]() |
Since the iPhone 4 launched yesterday a problem with phone signal has been reported.
The problem apparently occurs when holding the iPhone 4 in a certain way and has been affecting left-handed users much more than right-handers.
Apple has finally come out and commented on the problem. They have admitted that all mobiles experience some reduction in signal when gripping the mobile , because the antenna is in-built into the case.
Apple has suggested their mobile is no different and that holding the mobile in the bottom-left corner will reduce the signal the most. They have suggested that you try to avoid gripping your iPhone 4 by the bottom left corner. If you do need to grip the bottom-left corner Apple suggest that you don't cover both sides of the black strip in the metal band.
This does make sense with the whole problem because if the antenna is locating in the bottom-left then it would cause more problems for left handed people because they'd naturally grip that area.
Another solution offered by Apple is to buy an external case which would eliminate contact with the aluminum case and therefore the interference.
No doubt this isn't what Apple was hoping for at launch but we assume this problem was unavoidable as they must have done rigorous testing in order to decide the best antenna location.
