HTC have confirmed that the HTC Hero will get an upgrade to Android 2.1.
The HTC Hero update has been anticipated for a long time and it’s needed because Android 1.6 is limiting an otherwise brilliant mobile.
This update makes the HTC Hero almost identical to the HTC Legend, which launched significantly later than the Hero and is therefore more expensive.
HTC also confirmed that the update will take place in two steps. The first step, which is an over-the-air update, will be automatically picked up by the Hero when it checks for updates and is just a case of allowing the update.
The second step in the update is more risky because it will wipe all the data from your mobile so you’ll have to backup all your important files, numbers and data before you update.
