Blackberry Killer Super App Challenge
![]() |
The concept of Super Apps first surfaced a few months ago and we are still unsure what makes an App a Super App. Blackberry aims to take a key role in detailing everything you need to know about Super Apps over the next few months and has announced that Super Apps will be the focus of attention at its 3rd annual BlackBerry Partners Fund Developer Challenge.
The Challenge this year will focus on "Super Apps" and asks developers to showcase applications that take advantage of the BlackBerry Application Platform's unique capabilities. Blackberry are offering total prize money of up to 1.5 million dollars as part of the quest to find the leading Killer Super App.
Blackberry have initially explained that the characteristics of Super Apps are : proactive and notification-driven, highly contextualized, social and connected, and designed for efficiency”. Blackberry say that Super Apps need to be designed to provide an always-on experience and tight integration with native apps.
Over the coming months the road to qualification to Super App status should become clearer as tasks that an application can perform, explaining how to implement those features, and relating them back to the characteristics of Super Apps are confirmed by Blackberry.
We will post updates for Super App progress etc here at 3G.co.uk as soon as the mist clears some more.
