3G Mobile TV Boost

3G mobile phone and smartphone users are causing the UK 3G mobile operators an increasing headache with regard to 3G Mobile TV.
The viewing of Mobile TV is becoming increasingly popular and an example of this is that the BBC recently said that over 5 percent of people who watch iPlayer videos do so on their mobile phones. In addition, smartphones are becoming more popular and all the additional data – like emails and web data transfer – also create an additional strain on the 3G wireless networks.
This amount of mobile TV useage and data transfer can cause 3G mobile traffic congestion just like on the internet and we all know what happens then. It all grinds to a halt. To improve this situation Vodafone, Orange and O2 have developed a joint working agreement.
Vodafone, Orange and O2 have devised a plan to combat this problem. A trial will begin in October this year to see if using unused frequency spectrum and new a new technology called IMB can help. It will be tested in London. The three 3G mobile operators will be supported by three leading 3G technology companies. These are Streamezzo, Ericsson and IPWireless. The technology to be deployed is IMB and this will be used within 3G frequency spectrum which to-date has not been used by the 3G mobile operators.
The 3G spectrum being targeted by the trial is perfect for mobile TV transmissions but is not suitable for mobile phone calls etc. Will post more once the trial is completed.
