HSDPA Capability on RTD Protocol Test Tool for 3G UMTS Handsets
14th June , 2006

Europe UK : Anritsu announced further developments to its groundbreaking software tool, which speeds the testing of W-CDMA terminals.

With Release 2 of the RTD (Rapid Test Designer), Anritsu has taken a leap forward in technology by supporting HSDPA when used in conjunction with the company's MD8480C (the only system simulator able to support the maximum data rate of 14.4MBs). The MD8480C is shown above in use.

With 3G hand-sets now appearing in the consumer domain this has a major impact in the market place. RTD provides operators with a realistic solution to enable them to compete for new areas of business, generating new revenue streams by allowing scenarios to be developed that can test data throughput as well as future requirements such as handovers from different bearers.

Incorporating the latest in test software design, the RTD solution has been field proven with a number of Network Operators and UE developers, allowing terminal behaviour to be studied by users that are more interested in "real world" tests as opposed to prescriptive conformance to a specification.

By greatly simplifying the way in which tests are created, executed and analysed, RTD already hides much of the complexity of testing 3GPP protocols, allowing the user to concentrate on testing specific functions and protocols within the UE without having to be an expert on all the protocol layers.

The intuitive graphical interface means that users need not learn a specialist test language, or have a detailed knowledge of how to drive the system simulator. Built on Anritsu's years of experience testing 3GPP protocols with the leading UE vendors, RTD also provides "off the shelf" libraries enabling leading operators to easily run required tests; ensuring terminals meet required levels of performance in a proven environment.
