ASIA China : The leading wireless communication chip solution vendor Spreadtrum announced recently that they have realized videophone function based on its SC8800 series platform. TD-SCDMA wireless terminal manufacturers that adopted Spreadtrum platform can easily convert the videophone solution into a commercial product soon.

As one of the typical application that represents 3G advantage, videophone is surely to be the killer application of the third generation mobile communication. When we are using a cell phone equipped with the videophone function, both sides can watch the other party besides themselves in the LCD screen of the handset, similar to the video chatting on internet, but the picture will be smoother and clearer. Dr, Chen Datong, the CTO of Spreadtrum introduced that Spreadtrum has been focussing on the stability and quality of the TD-SCDMA solution. As early as in the beginning of March this year, Spreadtrum has realized bidirectional synchrocyclotron audio & video transmission service based on its SC8800 platform. After two months debugging, we delivered our mature videophone solution. The pictures appears stable, smooth and clear during the phone call conversation, indicating Spreadtrum's videophone solution is mature and reliable. Undoubtedly, such solution can definitely enhance the competitive advantage our customer's products in the market.

There have been some customers such as Amoi who have completed the development and trial production of their TD-SCDMA terminals with videophone function based on Spreadtrum's solution. As indicated by Mr. Zhang Senwang, the Executive Vice General Manager of Communication Division in Amoi, there are two major reasons for Amoi adopting Spreadtrum's solution. ''First of all, we have strong trust over the quality and stability of Spreadtrum's chip and solution based on long time collaboration. We wireless terminal manufacturers who chose Spreadtrum's videophone solution can directly apply it to a commercial product within a short time.''

Secondly, Spreadtrum embraces extensive development experiences in TD- SCDMA/GSM/GPRS products, can provide customers with complete solution, including chip, software and related value-added application platform according to their different requirements. In the meanwhile, Spreadtrum's open platform enables companies like Amoi with extensive cell phone development experience to fully exert their own advantage to differentiate their cell phone products from others. Mr. Zhang further addressed, ''This is a key point for wireless terminal vendors. Only with a reliable and open complete platform solution, are TD-SCDMA terminals able to compete with matured 2.5G products, in order to ensure fast paced development within the Chinese TD-SCDMA.
