Advances in 3G Services Demonstrated |
|
15th June , 2004 |
|
ASIA : At CommunicAsia 2004, Ericsson is demonstrating continued market progress for 3G-services with interoperable and commercial 3G handsets from eight leading handset vendors. The demonstrations will take place in Booth 4L1-01 in the outdoor area next to Hall 4. Visitors will experience live video telephony and different kinds of streaming services as proof of the great steps taken in true WCDMA interoperability between commercial handsets and systems. The demonstration of video telephony and packet- and circuit switched streaming services shows the potential of new exciting services that fully leverage the capabilities of 3G and the Internet. "Cooperation is vital between handset manufacturers and infrastructure suppliers," says Bob Schukai, Motorola's director of global 3G business development. "The Ericsson interoperability demonstration at CommunicAsia in Singapore shows Motorola's commitment to cooperation within the industry to achieve a successful global UMTS rollout." "It is our pleasure to cooperate with the Ericsson demonstration as a WCDMA handset vendor. We keep trying our best to expand the WCDMA market," says Tatsuru Kojima, Assistant General Manager, NEC Mobile Terminals Division. "Nokia sees 2004 as the year of mass roll-out of WCDMA networks," says Steve Lewis, Director of Imaging Business Unit, Nokia Multimedia, Asia Pacific. "We are fully committed to working closely with all the key vendors to accelerate a smooth consumer experience with Nokia's 3G WCDMA devices. We are pleased to be part of this IOP demonstration to showcase the exciting services mobile users can enjoy on Nokia's 3G devices." "Demonstrating
attractive multimedia applications across networks and phones is vital
not only for pushing service roll-out, but also to "The market is now coming to the stage when there are desirable 3G phones available and we are proud to play an important part in the 3G-development." "After the great success in Cannes 2004, I'm proud that we decided to set up this sought-after live demonstration at CommunicAsia, it really shows the importance we put on the end to end system-terminal interoperability," says Torbjörn Possne, Ericsson's Vice President Sales, Business Unit Systems. Ericsson favors an open standards approach to encourage a broad selection of attractive and interoperable 3G handsets from many different handset and mobile platform vendors. This demonstration with eight handset vendors including over ten commercial handsets proves the significant steps taken in WCDMA interoperability since last year. The growth in number of WCDMA subscriptions is gaining momentum and by the end of May 2004 there were more than five million subscriptions worldwide. |
