Sony Ericsson Xperia Range To Get Android 2.3.4

The newest smartphones in Sony Ericsson's Xperia Range will be upgraded to Android 2.3.4, which is the latest version of Gingerbread.

The update is apparently in testing right now and will be available for the Xperia Play, Neo, Arc (pictured above) and Pro but not for older mobiles such as the Nokia X8, X10 or X10 Mini. Those with SIM-free versions of the smartphones listed above can expect the update to launch in October.

The 2.3.4 Gingerbread update fixes a number of bugs and security flaws that can affect the operating system but also brings video calling to Google Android.

With Google Talk you can easily make video calls to any other user with Google talk installed regardless of what hardware they are using. The update also makes it easy to spot those who can be called using Google-Talk by showing on your contact list whether they have installed the application.

The bad news for those with operator-branded Xperia handsets is that they will have to wait for their operator to release the update, but lets hope it doesnt take too long.
