Nokia Forced To Cut Smartphone Prices

It's a well known fact that Nokia have been struggling to compete in the high-end smartphone market which has led to them having to make a number of changes.

The first action they took was to announce they would be supporting third-party operating systems (Windows Phone 7) for the first time after their MeeGo adventure with Intel didn't have the impact they expected.

Now Nokia have had to cut the prices of its smartphones with the Nokia N8 (pictured above), C7 and E6 seeing a 15 per cent reduction in prices. The price cuts are mainly due to Nokia failing to compete with the likes of HTC, Apple, Blackberry and Samsung in the premium smartphone market.

Other mobiles will also be seeing price-cuts but none are as large as the discounts seen in the top-end devices. We're not sure how much difference the price-cuts will make, but some analysts are predicting a price-war.

However, in our eyes the like of HTC and Apple aren't all that worried about Nokia taking their market share. This really does amplify the fall from grace Nokia has seen the the smartphone market.

The next year is a crucial one for Nokia and we really think they need to do something to lose their "stale" image which pales when compared to Apple's "trendy" image and HTC's "vibrant" one.
