Vodafone Awards 3G Network Contract to Huawei

Europe : Vodafone Czech Republic has selected Huawei as the supplier of its high-speed 3G network infrastructure. Under the five year contract, Huawei will be responsible for expanding Vodafone' s 3G network.

 

The initiative will firstly focus on continuing the expansion of 3G coverage within Prague, as well as Brno. Huawei will also work on the modernisation and expansion of Vodafone´s 2G EDGE network.

 

"Currently about a half million customers use our mobile data either in their handsets or in notebooks. In response to customer demand, we´ll continue with the successive build-up and modernisation of our 3G and 2G EDGE networks. We will begin the work for 3G coverage in Brno and the remaining areas of Prague in August 2009,"says Muriel Anton, CEO of Vodafone Czech Republic.

 

As well as continuing to expand its 3G network coverage, Vodafone currently covers 90% of the Czech population with its 2G EDGE technology.
