Under the agreement, Taiwan Cellular Corporation (TCC) will use Planet DMS 3.2 Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) to plan its third generation (3G) mobile network, and Wavecall's Wavesight 3D propagation software. Wavecall SA, the provider of the modeling software, is a strategic alliance partner of Marconi Wireless. TCC is the largest GSM1800 mobile operator in Taiwan with approximately eight million subscribers, around one-third of the market. The operator recently launched multimedia messaging for its General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), as well as mobile Internet services and volume-based billing. In January 2003, TCC announced plans to build a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) 3G mobile network. "We chose Planet DMS because it has all the functionality we need to plan and optimize our 3G mobile infrastructure, backed up by Marconi's extensive experience in wireless network planning," said TCC. "We believe that we have chosen the most trusted and efficient tool to ensure that our new 3G network will deliver a reliable and high-quality service, providing excellent coverage for our customers nationwide." Planet DMS 3.2, released in February 2003, builds on Marconi's vast experience in wireless network planning. Available for the UNIX platform, it features enhancements over previous versions of Planet to help operators improve quality of service (QoS) and optimize network infrastructure. In addition to providing QoS statistics for W-CDMA layers and extensive coverage layer statistics, Planet DMS 3.2 offers flexible packet data modeling, more precise subscriber definition, scrambling code planning for UMTS, enhanced throughput and layer statistics, as well as mobile power amplifier statistics. Another
key improvement includes enhanced performance by utilizing multi- processor
capabilities for RF predictions. Wavecall's Wavesight radio propagation
prediction software provides wireless operators with powerful ray tracing
capabilities and management of indoor penetration for Marconi's Planet
next-generation planning software suite. This increases the predictive
capacity in wireless networks while |
