MEGACO/H.248
is a protocol that has been endorsed by the ITU and IETF, and is being
adopted by leading carriers and system vendors for next-generation packet
telephony, including 3G wireless-to-IP environments. By using Brooktrouts
and Hughes products, and taking advantage of the integration work
between them, system developers can save three to four months of development
effort when compared with doing the integration on their own, and significantly
more than that when compared with building the platforms and protocols
from scratch. Brooktrouts TR2020 is an open systems platform for voice over packet developers that performs core functions including voice compression, PSTN signaling, and IP packetization. It enables developers to create media gateways for a variety of network environments including packet-based wireless local loops and mobile switching centers (MSCs), voice over cable, and IP PBX/Centrex, among others. The TR2020s GSM coding capability makes it particularly well suited for wireless applications. The TR2020 also offers VQmon, which enables real-time call quality monitoring to improve quality of service, one of the most important enablers of growth for the packet voice market. The MEGACO Media Gateway Toolkit from HSS offers the necessary software components for gateway developers building highly scalable and flexible solutions. The HSS MEGACO/H.248 offering is compliant with the latest release of IETF RFC 3015 and the ITU-T H.248 standard, complementing Hughes comprehensive suite of packet communication protocol software. MEGACO is rapidly becoming an accepted standard that developers are using for packet telephony, said Manoranjan Monapatra, EVP and chief operation officer of Hughes Software Systems. By integrating these standards-based components, Hughes and Brooktrout are providing a new level of interoperability and maturity, increasing the confidence and decreasing the effort required by our customers in building their systems. Last Fall, Brooktrout and Hughes collaborated to integrate Hughes Gb protocol stack on Brooktrouts Netaccess® Series NS300 board to provide wireless developers with a proven solution for packet data backhaul functions utilizing the latest 2.5G technology. |
