magic4 launches Wireless Village Instant Messaging Client
17th July 2002

magic4 announced the release of two new products based upon the Wireless Village Instant Messaging protocol. Advanced messaging services like Instant Messaging take text messaging to the next level, allowing end-users to send and receive messages containing content such as pictures, music, images and graphics. These new products will now enable users, already accustomed to Internet-based Instant Messaging services, to experience Instant Messaging in a wireless environment

The Wireless Village initiative was established by Ericsson, Motorola, and Nokia to define and promote a set of universal specifications for mobile instant messaging and presence services as well as creating a community of supporters of which magic4 is an active member. The specifications are used for exchanging messages and presence information between mobile devices, mobile services and Internet-based instant messaging services. The protocol is optimised for the requirements of mobile devices and wireless networks.
Andy Pearson, Instant Messaging Product Manager, magic4 said, "We are pleased to be delivering yet another open standards messaging solution to our partners and, this is another significant step towards delivering richer messaging services to mass-market handsets.

Interoperability between magic4's existing EMS and MMS technology and the new Wireless Village compliant solutions will provide complementary messaging services with a consistent look and feel, while reducing development costs and accelerating handset time-to-market for manufacturers"

These solutions are available today and mark an important milestone in the evolution of mobile messaging and magic4.
