Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Improved processor and faux-leather design, but is it closer to the Galaxy Note 2?

Back in December we brought you news that Samsung were working on a 'Lite' version of their Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Now we've learnt that the more affordable S-Pen phablet will be called the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo and also got our hands on its specification.

An internal document has leaked giving us the full lowdown on Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 Neo, which has a very similar specification to the ageing Galaxy Note 2. That includes the same 5.5 inch 720p Super AMOLED display, 8 mega-pixel camera, 2GB of RAM. 16GB of onboard memory and even an identical 3,100mAh battery.

It's not all more of the same though, because the Galaxy Note 3 Neo has the worlds' first 'Hexa Core' processor which combines a dual-core 1.7GHz with a quad-core 1.3GHz processor. That should significantly improve performance over the Note 2's 1.6GHz quad-core chip, but is still likely to lose out to the Note 3's Octa-core processor.

So far one has to wonder why the affordable phablet is carrying the Note 3 branding. Well you'll be pleased to hear that it adopts the same grippy faux-leather back that debuted on the Note 3 and the includes very latest in S-Pen technology, including support for Air Command, Air Gesture, Smart Pause/Scroll and Adapt Display/Sound.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 Neo also gets all the latest Samsung TouchWiz features including 'Magazine UX'  which 'enables users to organize their favorite content in an easy-to-use dashboard with automatic feed or news updates and then quickly access the most frequently used apps'.

And Samsung's lower-price phablet will support 'Advanced Multi Window' which takes multi-tasking to a whole new level. The internal documents leaked to GSMArena only reveal that it'll support HSPA+, but when it gets revealed we're hoping that a 4G model will also be available.

Pricing is the all-important factor here and if its priced right it could prove a real success, especially in less affluent markets. The Korean company are expected to take the lid off the Galaxy Note 3 Neo at MWC 2014 at the end of February.

As soon as get more news about the Galaxy Note 3 Neo you'll be the first to know.
