The Windows Phone 7.8 update is due to be released by Microsoft very shortly and we've now heard that Nokia are just waiting for Microsoft's approval to roll-out the update to their smartphones.

At the moment we're not totally sure what Nokia smartphones it'll roll-out on , but we do know it'll be available on the Lumia 900 (pictured above) and the Lumia 800. Infact, according to news website PocketGamer Nokia have already begun pre-installing the update on new Lumia 800 units.

The Windows Phone 7.8 update will potentially be available on all smartphones running on Windows Phone 7.5.  The update brings a number of improvements including a number of features introduced by Windows Phone 8.

One major new inclusion is support for re-sizeable Live Tiles which enables users to customise their Windows smartphone. Additionally, the number of theme colours available has been doubled and the lock-screen has more customisation options. Other new features include an MP3 editor for making your own ring-tones, Bluetooth file-sharing and a whole host of visual tweaks.

A leaked version of the update is already available to download and install on the Lumia 900, 800, 610, 710 or 510. However, we only recommend experienced mobile users to even contemplate installing the leaked version and those interested in doing so can find out more by clicking here.

As soon as 3G get more news on the official launch of Windows Phone 7.8 we'll let you know.
