Apple only launched the iPhone 5 in September but ever since it hit the market we've been hearing rumours about its successor.

New information circulating the webosphere suggest that the next iPhone has already entered testing along with the new version of iOS. Previously, we assumed that the next iPhone to launch would be the iPhone 5S , but this fresh rumour suggests that Apple's next smartphone will be the iPhone 6.

Anonymous developers have contacted our friends over at TheNextWeb to report that they've spotted that Apple are already testing a device codenamed the iPhone 6.1 running iOS 7.  Apparently, the developer logs show employees from Apple's headquarters testing compatibility with popular iOS applications.

Sadly, that's all the information that was highlighted by the leak , but if the device is already being tested then it can't be all that long before it hits the market. The most likely launch date for the iPhone 6 is September , which gives the iPhone 5 a full year on sale before its gets succeeded.

A separate, but related leak, suggests that Apple could launch the next iPhone in a wider colour range. AppleInsider have highlighted the thoughts of Analyst Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets who expected Apple to launch the next iPhone in eight colours.

White suggested that the iPhone 6 could be available in pink, yellow, blue, red , green, purple, silver and slate.  Additionally, he also suggested that the next iPhone could be available in a choice of different screen sizes , which is an interesting thought.

At the moment all the information about the next iPhone is pure speculation and we can't even be sure if it'll be the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6 that Apple unveils later this year. However, as soon as 3G get more information you'll be the first to know.
