CES 2013 is now underway and Sony have kicked off their event by unveiling the stunning Sony Xperia Z , which is their new flagship Android smartphone.
Stunning and Robust Design
Sony smartphones have always been lookers , but the Sony Xperia Z sets new standards and has quickly gone right to the top of 3G's most wanted list.
The smartphone adopts an "OmniBalance design" with rounded edges and smooth reflective surfaces , while it's made from glass fibre polyamide. This ensuring that the smartphone is robust even though it's just 7.9 mm thick.
Durability is a real strength of Sony's smartphone because it is both IP55 & IP57 certified meaning it's dust and water resistance. The mobiles display also features tempered glass , while the Xperia Z has anti-shatter films on the front and back.
Cutting-Edge Full HD Display
Sony's Xperia Z has a 5 inch touch-screen that runs at a resolution of 1920*1080 pixels (full HD) which gives the smartphone a ppi of 443. That makes it far sharper than the display on the iPhone 5 (326 ppi) and Galaxy Note 2 (320 ppi) and makes it the perfect device for gaming and streaming video.
The display also incorporates Sony's Mobile Bravia 2 engine which is a cutting-edge technology developed for Sony's Bravia televisions. The technology ensures that the display shows the best possible image at all times even in low and high-light conditions.
Amazing Power With Excellent Battery Life
As you would expect from a next-gen smartphone the Sony Xperia Z is a real powerhouse thanks to the inclusion of a quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor. The processor runs at 1.5 GHz and is asynchronous meaning that it only uses full-power when the smartphone needs it which saves battery.
The CPU is backed up by 2GB of RAM which should ensure that applications open quickly and will make the Xperia Z an excellent device for multi-tasking.
Battery life is another area where the Xperia Z excels because not only does it include an asynchronous processor, but it comes with Sony's "Battery STAMINA Mode". The mode activates when your Xperia Z's display enters sleep-mode and it shuts down all battery draining applications until the display is turned back-on.
The end-result is that the Xperia Z's 2330 mAh battery gives you around 500 hours of standby time and an average of 12 hours talk-time (depending on the network type).
13 Mega-pixel Snapper with HDR Video Recording
The Sony Xperia Z has a 13 mega-pixel camera which sets new standards because it's the first smartphone sensor to support HDR video recording. HDR (High-Dynamic Range) ensures photos and videos are always sharp and clear even in bright sunlight.
Additionally, Sony have included a front-facing 2.2 mega-pixel snapper which is perfect video calling. The camera can record video at full HD and incorporates "Superior Auto mode" which activates HDR and noise-reduction when it's needed.
Supported Connectivity & Other Features
The Sony Xperia Z supports both 3G and 4G which is great news for those looking to take advantage of EE's superfast 4G network. Additionally, it'll also be compatible with the other operators 4G networks when they launch in the UK later this year.
Sony's smartphone also supports NFC meaning it can take advantage of Sony's "One-Touch" features , which enables you to transfer information quickly and easily. While, the Xperia Z is also PlayStation-Certified enabling it to run the full collection of Playstation Mobile games.
On-board memory weights in at 16GB which can be expanded using microSD cards, while the smartphone comes pre-loaded with Android Jelly Bean (4.1). However, an update to Android 4.2 is expected shortly after the smartphone lands.
Launch Date & Availability
The Sony Xperia Z will launch in the first quarter of 2013 and will be available in a choice of either Black, White or Purple. Sadly, at the current time we don't have an exact launch date or any idea of the price of the smartphone.
EE have already confirmed they'll be stocking the Sony Xperia Z and at the smartphones launch they'll be the only operating offering the mobile with 4G connectivity. Three have also confirmed they'll be stocking the Xperia Z, while we also expect the other major operators to carry the smartphone.
As soon as 3G get more news about the Sony Xperia Z you'll be the first to know !
