IHS Report

New research is predicting that Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system could have more market share than Apple's iOS operating system by 2015.

The research, conducted by IHS, predicts that by 2015 the Windows Platform will have a 17.7 per cent market share compared to Apple's iOS with 17.6 per cent share.

IHS are predicting that the release of the Nokia Lumia 900 , which runs on Windows Phone, will reverse Nokia's fortunes. Nokia have lost a huge amount of market share in recent times, which forced them to drop their own operating systems in favour of Microsoft's Windows Phone platform.

If the figures reported above are to prove correct we think Nokia will have to see a huge return to form, but if they keep producing great smartphones we don't see any reason why it couldn't become a reality. However, caution does have to be exerted because their current Windows Phone market share is under 2%.

Both Apple and Microsoft will be devastated to see the reports that predict that Android will have almost 60 per cent of the smartphone market, which is up from its current market share of 47 per cent.

3G isn't sure the Windows platform can overtake Apple's iOS platform, but we have no doubt that Android will continue to gain market share !
