Social Networking Killing The Text Message ?

The meteoric rise of the text message in the 90's was hugely profitable for the operators who made at least 10p for every message sent.

When you consider up to 20 messages could be sent in a conversation that could have been conducted in a 60 second phone call, you can see the operators pushed them so hard !

However, the latest report from the New York Times suggests that text messaging could be beginning to die out. They've found data from across various countries in the world that highlight that the number of texts being sent is reducing.

When you consider all the new alternative to the text message the findings arn't all that surprising. The huge popularity of social networking is bound to influence the amount of text messages , because you can easily chat through Facebook , Blackberry Messenger or Twitter.

3G should point out that the number of text messages sent in the US did still increase, but we'd be interested to see the number of texts sent per mobile. Over the next couple of years we think that internet communication will replace text messages  !
