Nokia have announced huge losses of £800 million pounds in the 4th quarter of 2011 and a reduction in year-on-year net sales of 21 per cent.

The Nokia Lumia 800 was meant to reverse the company's fortunes,  but it doesn't look to have had the immediate effect Nokia would have hoped. Infact, they have sold just over a million units of the Nokia Lumia 800, which is far below the targets they initially set.

If it wasn't for feature phones, which have always been Nokia's "saving grace", the company may be in deep deep trouble. Nokia really need to get their act together soon because , even in developing countries,  smartphones are becoming more and more affordable.

We understand Nokia has spent a huge amount developing and advertising their new Windows Phone range in the last couple of months, but we're starting to doubt whether it will pay off.

The next couple of months will see the launch of the Nokia Lumia 710 and Lumia 900 and will be hugely important in Nokia's future. It's a huge fall from grace for Nokia, but one which isn't insurmountable but 3G is wondering whether adopting the Windows platform was the right move.
