LG have announced that they've sold 1 million LG Optimus LTE smartphones across the world !

The smartphone first launched back in October 2011 in LG's native Korea, where it has sold 600,000 units so far. The Optimus LTE is also available in Japan, the US and Canada which make up the remaining 400,000 sales.

LG are pleased with the mobile's success and claim it showcases the huge potential of 4G/LTE technology, which has yet to launch in the UK.

The 4G wireless spectrum auctions are expected to take place at the end of 2012 in the UK, which puts well behind the rest of the world in adoption rates. However, Everything Everywhere has been pressuring OFCOM to allow operators to upgrade existing 2G spectrum's to deliver 4G in the UK.

We highly doubt that OFCOM will approve Everything Everywhere's request, but we that the UK's slow adoption is already affecting us. We've already begun seeing major smartphones announced with LTE built-in, such as the Lumia 900, which could soon lead to us missing out on mobiles altogether.

3G will be following the progress of LTE/4G very closely over the coming months and we'll bring you any new information as it surfaces.
