Everything Everywhere

The 4G wireless spectrum auctions are due to take place at the end of the year . However, Everything Everywhere are keen to get 4G off the ground before they even take place !

The company, which is made up of T-Mobile and Orange, have asked Ofcom's permission to upgrade existing mobile spectrums to provide 4G services. In particular they want  operators to be allowed to upgrade the 1800MHz 2G spectrum to provide 4G.

4G offers even faster data speeds to users meaning faster stream, rapid downloads and instant web-browsing. In the US the technology is already live, where it's called LTE, and today we brought you rumours that the new iPad 3 will support 4G.

We don't know at this time what Ofcom's response will be but earlier in the year they allowed O2 to upgrade one of its 2G signals to provide 3G mobile broadband. That sets a good precedent, but the difference this time is that the auctions for the 4G spectrum technology havn't taken place.

3G highly doubt whether Ofcom will authorise Everything Everywhere's request , but they could surprise us. Once we hear anything more we'll let you know.
