O2 iPhone 4 and Dongle Customers Moving to 900MHz
![]() |
O2 is moving its mobile broadband dongle and iPhone 4 customers to it's newly acquired 900 Mhz spectrum to ease network congestion writes Mobile Today.
The 900MHz spectrum has recently been released by Ofcom so that O2 ( and Vodafone ) can make better use of it.
The customers will move from the 2100 MHz band to the 900MHz and to support this O2 has doubled its daily network spend to £2 million a day.
Mobile Today spoke to O2 about their plans and O2 said ‘Our deployment is focused on increasing the capacity of our 3G network where we have capacity hotspots. When 900MHz is activated on a site, customers with compatible handsets should experience less congestion and a faster service.
‘Our 2G customers will benefit as traffic migrates to the 900MHz network and frees up capacity.'
