Nokia To Start Making Android Smartphones ?
![]() |
Nokia has only ever produced mobiles using its own operating systems for a very long time. Infact, Symbian has been the world’s most popular mobile operating system for quite some time. However, with Symbian’s market share declining Nokia may be about to change its strategy.
In a conference call , which was reported by The Wall Street Journal, Nokia Chief Executive Stephen Elop stated that the mobile industry has become “a battle of ecosystems” and that Nokia would have to consider a “multiple ecosystem pattern”.
Although, the quote doesn’t mention either operating systems directly we think it’s a huge hint that Nokia is going to start producing mobiles that run on third-party operating systems.
Google Android is growing rapidly and would be the most likely option if Nokia were to support another operating system. However, it’s also possible they would make Windows Phone 7 mobiles, but the open nature of Google’s OS makes that a more likely choice.
Once we hear more about the possibility of Nokia launching Android/Windows based smartphones we’ll let you know.
