Android users are advised that a new virus called "MSO.PJApps," has been recorded by NetQin Mobile.
The "MSO.PJApps," virus could leak your private data and subscribe you to subscription based services without your knowledge. As soon as NetQin Mobile discovered the virus they updated their database to include this Android virus.
The virus emerged in China and has been repackaged into the most popular mobile applications which are then downloaded. We don't know if the virus is in the UK so this article is intended to make Android users aware of the virus and the type of help available via companies like NetQin Mobile.
NetQin Mobile wrote "The virus surreptitiously connects to certain sites and sends text messages containing the mobile device's IMEI number and other data to designated numbers controlled by a remote server. In addition, the virus receives commands from the remote server to download and install software without user's awareness".
NetQin Mobile Anti-virus 4.2 for Android is available for download at http://www.netqin.com/en/antivirus and on Android Market. In terms of advice the company listed the following cautionary points :
- Download applications only from trusted sources, reputable application stores and markets. Check available reviews and ratings.
- Never accept applications unknown to you. Check what permissions the app is requesting.
- Install a reputable security application for your mobile device.
