Nokia have added their weight to the proposal from Symbian for its new operating system Symbian 4. Symbian 4 is needed for both Symbian and Nokia to compete with Apple’s iPhone , Google Android and even new upstarts like Samsung Bada.
Nokia’s Symbian 4 UI proposal will undergo evaluation not only by Symbian but by key Symbian developers too. Symbian 4 is scheduled to go live in smartphones early in 2011 and will feature a new user interface.
It is believed that their will be four main screens for music, photos, applications and contacts. Some Symbian 4 UI Concept photos are shown above. Other photos via Nokia can be seen here
There will obviously be a whole host of improvements and these currently include : autosaving features to reduce save commands, minimising user prompts and same look-and-feel for all applications.
Symbian 4 users will have the facility to create shortcuts, placed on the home screen, to access specific content items or collections. Context based menus will provide faster access to common commands.
