Erick Tseng, Senior Product Manager at Google Android was recently interviewed by the Engadget Show and unveiled some interesting facts with regard to the next stages of Google Android. Erick should know because he’s worked on Google Android for 3 of the 5 years it’s been in development.

Recent Google updates have been Cupcake ( version 1.5 ), Doughnut ( version 1.6 ) and Éclair ( version 2.1 ) but where does Froyo slot in ? Froyo seems to have been derived from “frozen yogurt” and should therefore appear as version 2.2 or 3 we guess.

Erick Tseng gave no further details other than Froyo will represent a big step-up from Éclair ( version 2.1 ). Missing was when Froyo would be available but industry experts are predicting Mid 2010.

The success of Android to date can be gauged by the rapid rise in applications for Android devices which now total over 20,000 available from Android Market.
