3G operator 3 UK continues to expand and improve its 3G network for both mobile phones and mobile internet. This week it installed its latest 3G network site bringing the number across the UK to 1,000K. 3 UK aim aim to add another 3G network sites by the end of 2010.
The current coverage for 3’s 3G mobile network covers just under 93% of the UK’s population ( see left ). The latest 3G network site was in Shooters Hill, South-East London.
3 UK has a 3G network sharing agreement with T-Mobile which means that both operators benefit from having less 3G network sites than if they went it alone. There is a fifty percent reduction in the number of 3G network masts.
“ Our 3G network is already the biggest 3G network in the UK. Now we’re adding new coverage and capacity across the country to meet demand and bring the benefits of 3G to people who’ve never had access in their area before “ said Graham Baxter, CTO at 3 UK.
