| New 3G Mobile News Consortium |
8th January , 2004 |
The project called 'MINDS' (Mobile Information and News Data Services for 3G) is funded by the European Commission through its eContent programme and led by the German news agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) through its information service subsidiary dpa-infocom. Additional project partners are the news agencies of Austria (APA), the Netherlands (ANP), Switzerland (sda-ats) and Hungary (MTI). Complementary partners are the world publishing association Ifra, the German IT service company arvato systems (Bertelsmann) and the Fraunhofer FOKUS Institute. The MINDS partners are planning to develop at least a dozen mobile information services for consumers, enterprises or public authorities. "Our Smart Content Technology is the ideal platform for the timely delivery of personalised, location-based mobile services such as thunderstorm-warnings or multimedia sports news via SMS and MMS. With these innovations we are expanding on our market leadership for news agencies", explains Sören Stamer, Co-Founder and CEO of CoreMedia. CoreMedia provides multi-channel Content Management as well as Digital Rights Management (DRM) for mobile services to the consortium. The news services have to reach the reader not only in a timely fashion but also have to consider the interest and context of the reader as well as device-specific characteristics. Therefore the data formats and especially the processes for production and publishing have to be managed and synchronized between the partners along the value chain. CoreMedia will also contribute with its' experience gained from participation at the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) - an organisation that fully supports the creation of interoperable end-to-end mobile services. The CoreMedia Smart Content Technology is in use today for multi-channel news services such as o2, T-Online and T-Mobile. |
