Turnkey 3G Video To Mobile Phones

9th January 2003

BT Broadcast Services and Oplayo will provide a revolutionary solution for mobile phone operators to offer video streaming on existing GPRS and 3G networks

Oplayo, the company that brought the world’s first video streaming to existing GPRS networks, today announces an agreement with BT Broadcast Services (BTBS) to offer a turnkey solution to broadcasters and mobile phone operators alike - helping them provide video to today's mobile phones.

The majority of the UK’s broadcast media content already passes through the BT Tower, and in addition BT Broadcast Services has the capability to take feeds of content and transcode to various formats including the Oplayo format. Using the BTBS solution, this deal will enable any content owner or broadcaster to quickly offer streaming content to mobile phone users.

Oplayo’s revolutionary Mobile Video Solution, including Oplayo’s media designer and the Oplayo mobile videoplayer software, enables the delivery of high-quality video over existing GPRS networks – the product is also compatible for future 3G networks.

Philip O’Ferrall, UK Managing Director at Oplayo commented; “We are excited that BTBS has seen the huge opportunity and has the existing infrastructure to offer the solution today. This will enable a mobile operator or content owner to offer a service within weeks rather than months, and certainly well in advance of 3G.”

Nigel Sands, BT Broadcast Service’s Development Director said: “This deal with Oplayo will allow our customers to leverage their content within the mobile phone market and extends our existing capabilities in digital content management and the switching of video at BT Tower."
