Samsung is set to launch super-slim Galaxy Tab S2

Samsung’s invested heavily in tablets, releasing seemingly dozens of them over the last few years, but while some are very well reviewed they’ve all struggled to come close to the iPad Air in sales or to perform as well as Samsung’s smartphones.

That may all be about to change though, as rumour has it that Samsung is prepping a new slate, dubbed the Galaxy Tab S2 and it could be the company’s best yet.

As the name suggests, this is presumably set to replace the Galaxy Tab S (pictured above), which itself is a mighty impressive slate. That was the first tablet to pack a high resolution Super AMOLED screen, giving it rich, vibrant colours. That was combined with a slim build and a whole lot of power.

Not much is known about the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 yet, but supposedly it will come in two sizes- 8.0-inch and 9.7-inch, which would make it a very close competitor to the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3, which come in at 9.7 inches and 7.9 inches respectively.

Other leaked details include the fact that it will apparently be built from premium materials including a metal frame, have a 4:3 aspect ratio and be even slimmer than the 6.1mm thick iPad Air 2.

No other information has been revealed but given that it’s a successor to the Galaxy Tab S it seems like a safe bet that it will have a Super AMOLED display. That slate had a 1600 x 2560 screen, so this will presumably at least match that.

It’s also bound to be more powerful, which given that the Galaxy Tab S came with an octa-core processor and 3GB of RAM suggest we should be in for a real beast of a tablet.

It’s not known when the Galaxy Tab S2 will be announced or launched, but Samsung is expected to have a large presence at MWC, including a press conference on March 1st where we’re almost certainly going to see the Galaxy S6, so there’s a chance that we could see the Galaxy Tab S2 alongside it.

Whenever it arrives though there’s a good chance that it could be the best Android tablet yet and may finally be the slate to give the iPad cause for concern.
