Google Nexus 5 reaches a new low price in the UK

Google Nexus 5

Update: Offer has now expired and the price has gone up to £284.99.

The Google Nexus 5 was already one of the best value smartphones in the world when it was priced at £299. But it's now got even more appealing with the Carphone Warehouse cutting its price to just £240 in the UK.

That bags you the SIM-free version of Google's Android smartphone in a choice of either Black, White or the new Red version. Whichever version you choose it'll come pre-loaded with Android KitKat, will support 4G LTE and have a high-end specification.

Google's Nexus 5 has a 5-inch IPS display running at a full HD resolution (1920*1080 pixels) and is powered by a quad-core 2.3GHz processor backed up by 2GB of RAM. You also get 16GB of on-board memory, an 8MP camera with optical-image stabilisation and a front-facing 1.2MP snapper.

Our Google Nexus 5 review concluded that "With incredibly fast performance, thanks to its 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, (and if you ignore the mediocre camera performance) the Nexus 5 is probably the best Android handset on offer in this price range."

Google themselves are still selling the Nexus 5 at its recommend retail price (£299) and the Carphone Warehouse's price can't be beaten. You'd also be hard pressed to find a better smartphone for £240 with some devices costing twice as much having an inferior specification.
