Docomo have announced that they are launching two new Disney smartphones, which will be hitting Japanese stores very soon.
The new smartphones , which are called the Disney Mobile F-08D and Disney Mobile P-05D, both run on the Android platform and have decent specifications. Both mobiles come with a cute Mickey Mouse home-screen button and exclusive Disney content pre-loaded including wallpapers and animations.
The Disney F-08D has a cutting-edge specification which includes a 4.3 inch 720p (1280*720) display, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and is both waterproof and dust-proof. It'll launch running on Android 2.3 and we're unsure whether it'll be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich.
The Disney P-05D has a slightly lower specification, but its still a premium device which has a 4.3 inch qHD display (960*540 pixels) and a 1 GHz dual-core processor. It'll also run on Android Gingerbread!
We highly doubt whether we'll see the mobiles launching in the UK , due to the cultural differences between the UK and Japan.
In the UK the market for a Disney smartphone would be young girls aged around 8-11, but the price of these smart-phones are likely to make that market unsuitable. However, in Japan many older teenage girls and even grown-women would be happy to be seen with a Disney mobile , which is undoubtedly Docomo's target market in Japan.
The Disney F-08D will launch in late February and will be available in a choice of either Pink or White, while the P-05D will launch in March in a choice of White or Black. If 3G hears anything more about a UK launch we'll let you know, but don't get your hopes up.
