Nokia Caught By Android
![]() |
In the last quarter of 2010 a total of 101.2 smartphones were sold. Canalys, the research analysts, issued an overview of the sales and this shows that Android has overtaken Nokia. Phones which were shipped with the Android operating system totalled 33.3 million while Nokia with its Symbian OS sold 31 million.
Looking at the chart above it makes for a sign of the times with many phone manufacturers introducing some or all of their phones with the Android OS. Just a few remain as non Android such as Apple, BlackBerry and Nokia.
The Wall Street Journal recently issued an article on whether Nokia would be tempted to introduce Android when Nokia Chief Executive Stephen Elop stated that the mobile industry has become "a battle of ecosystems" and that Nokia would have to consider a "multiple ecosystem pattern".
Looking at the latest figures above this may help Nokia decide and we wait to see what happens next.
