BlackBerry No 1 Smartphone in UK
![]() |
New research from business analysts GFK shows Blackberry is the largest selling smartphone in the UK.
BlackBerry say that GFK looked at December's smartphone sales for the UK and found that Blackberry took 36% of the smartphone sales during that time. GFK estimated that BlackBerry sold 500K units in December.
Surprisingly, BlackBerry was number one in the pre-pay sector with over 50% of the smartphone sales in the same month.
It appears that BlackBerry are no longer so reliant on sales from business users. A number of features are proving very popular where social networking is a necessity. BlackBerry currently has 33 million users of its BlackBerry Messenger and claims it is the number one smartphone platform for Twitter as it has six million downloads.
"December was a record month for us - with around 11 BlackBerrys sold every minute. The strength of sales in 2010 confirms BlackBerry's leadership position in the UK smartphone market" said Stephen Bates, Managing Director UK, Research In Motion:
He continued "This is highlighted in particular by our growth in the burgeoning pre-paid market. BlackBerry smartphones are now the number-one prepaid smartphones in the UK and we achieved the position of UK number one smartphone brand in 2010".
