3 UK Installs 3G Mobile Broadband Traffic System
![]() |
3 UK has been working with Velocent for over a year to see how it can affectively cope with an ever increasing surge in 3G mobile broadband data traffic. The result is that 3 UK have installed whats basically a Traffic Monitoring System called OneVu. One of the basic elements of OneVu is shown above.
OneVu is up and running on the 3 UK 3G mobile broadband network and currently processes the equivalent of over one thousand DVDs of data per hour. It monitors the whole network down to individual customer usage and what signal quality is being received by that customer.
OneVu is being used by 3 UK Customer Support and Network Operations to resolve customers issues with regard to the network. This can involve isolating the worst cell site paths that produce the most problems on the 3G mobile network.
Customer Support utilizes dashboards that highlight any exceptions including GGSN accessibility cause codes, SIM card replacements, device changes, throughput or latency issues, and dropped sessions. Utilizing OneVu, 3UK customer support is increasing first call resolution while reducing trouble tickets open to operations engineers for problem resolution.
OneVu not only provides accessibility and retainability indicators provided by the old call trace systems, but also important user plane based integrity indicators such as per-second peak throughput, congestion event isolation and mobile network latency, to provide true customer experience visibility.
