PacketVideo Brings Live TV to the iPhone

16th February, 2009

US : PacketVideo (PV) announced the commercial availability of PV’s mobile video application for the Apple iPhone, enabling the delivery of operator-branded TV and video services on the popular smartphone for the first time.

The application is available immediately and will be sold via operator distribution. Mobile operators are expected to offer the new iPhone application under their own brands via the iPhone Application Store, enabling subscribers to view local live television channels and on-demand video clips.

PV’s first ever commercial application for the iPhone is powered by PV’s well-known CORE™ software platform that has shipped in more than 320 million mobile phones worldwide. In addition to video streaming and playback capabilities, PV’s CORE supports the middleware services needed to deliver live and on-demand content, including support for mobile operator TV services electronic program guide (EPG) information.

“Operators want to offer branded, value-added services across their entire portfolio of devices. The popularity and processing power of the iPhone makes it a very strategic device for the delivery of advanced media content,” said PV CEO James C. Brailean, Ph.D. “Our ability to bring premium video services to the iPhone as well as the other major mobile platforms opens up new possibilities for mobile operators around the world. We look forward to supporting other exciting new iPhone applications in the near future.”
