iPad Air Plus details emerge

The iPad Air Plus has been rumoured on and off for a while, but now there are some major new details.

Apparently the slate will come in at 12.2 inches, with a physical size of 305.31 x 220.8 x 7mm, making it larger and fatter than the 6.1mm iPad Air 2, but still fairly slim.

It’s also said to come with the A9 chip, which is no surprise, given that the iPad Air 2 is powered by the A8X, but if it does you can expect it to be even more powerful than Apple’s latest and supposedly it will have four speakers, one on each edge, to allow for stereo sound in either orientation.

A release date has also been put forward, with claims that it will be released between April and June next year.

That would likely see it launching before the iPad Air 3 or iPad mini 4, but that makes some sense as with the extra screen size it’s probably aimed at a different market to those tablets. Specifically we can see it being useful for professionals who want to use it for work.

Currently that segment is a little underserved by tablets, with only Microsoft’s Surface Pro range making a real attempt at it, so the iPad Air Plus would bring some much needed competition.

Of course it’s impossible to say how accurate any of this information, which comes from Japanese magazine Mac Fan and was spotted by macotakara, is.

The magazine also spilled some details on the iPad mini 4, claiming that it will have the same design as the iPad Air 2, which is slimmer than the iPad mini 3, and that it will also have an A8X processor just like the Air 2, while the original iPad mini and the mini 3 will be removed from Apple’s line-up, leaving just the iPad mini 2 for anyone after a cheaper option.
